How Long Will My Project Take To Complete?

The answer is probably longer than you thought.

While, mass builders can whip out standardized spec houses in 4 to 6 months, a custom (i.e. unique) home is going to be on a much different schedule.

There are many variables that affect how long a project will take. They include:

• Size
• Complexity
• Quality level expected
• Market conditions
• Time constraints and/or incentives

One can always pay more to have something done faster, but unless you have a compelling reason to do so, it is usually not a benefit to do so.

A custom home of four to five thousand square feet will take four to six months to design and prepare construction documents, one to two months to arrange for construction services, and eight to twelve months for actual construction.

A large estate of ten thousand square feet will take six to eight months to design, one to three months to arrange for construction services and eighteen to twenty-four months for actual construction.
